Praxis Launch 20th March 1PM

On March 20, 2025, we will host the official online launch of eight  new educational resources, developed as part of the Praxis Project, alongside the release of a new research report, Empowering Change. This event, funded by Irish Aid, highlights the latest contributions to Global Citizenship and Development Education (GCDE) in higher education.

About the Research Report:

“Building Beyond Borders: Research Insights on Global Justice Education in Higher Education.  Part 2 of a Three Part Research Study as part of the work of the Praxis Project, School of Education UCC.”

The launch will introduce eight resources, each designed to support educators in integrating GCDE into their teaching and research:

  • GCDE meets Ophthalmology – A resource for medical educators (Dr. Rene Gonzales & Dr. Gertrude Cotter)
  • Let’s Get Critical – A critical pedagogy toolkit for higher education (Dr. Sharon Ultsch)
  • Mystery Box Challenge – A resource for unpacking global justice challenges (Dr. Gertrude Cotter)
  • Global LGBTQ+ Experiences – A GCDE resource for third-level educators (Richard Keyes McDonnell)
  • The Elephant in the Room – A creative arts-based anti-racism resource (Dr. Gertrude Cotter)
    Always Evolving – A timeline-based history of development education (Dr. Gertrude Cotter)
  • Liberated Zone – A resource on direct action in GCDE, with a focus on Palestine (Dr. Gertrude Cotter)
  • We Lived It! – An oral history of Development Education in Ireland (Dr. Gertrude Cotter)
    Event Details & How to Join
  • The Elephant in the Room: A Creative Arts Project which includes research findings of experiences of racism on UCC Campus.

The event will be hosted by Dr Gertrude Cotter, Lecturer at the School of Education UCC and Academic Coordinator of the Praxis Project. Gertrude has authored or co-authored seven of the resources.
