Education Beyond Borders: Building a Global Justice University is the third and final report in the Praxis Project’s academic research series at University College Cork. It brings together several years of research with staff, students and wider stakeholders to ask a central question: what would it mean for universities to take global justice seriously as part of their teaching, research, institutional practice and public role?
Drawing on the findings of the first two Praxis reports, alongside new focus groups, stakeholder interviews, policy analysis and reflection on Praxis practice, the report argues for Critical Global Justice Education as both an interdisciplinary approach and a recognised academic field. It emphasises the need to move beyond isolated projects and optional activities towards sustained structures that support critical pedagogy, human rights, anti-racism, decolonial and feminist thinking, ecological justice, solidarity and action.
At the heart of the report is the Global Justice University framework, organised around five interconnected areas: Learning for Justice, Research for Justice, Partnerships for Justice, Campus as a Site of Justice, and Action for Justice. Together, these offer a practical framework for universities seeking to connect education with responsibility, participation and meaningful social change.
